Fieldlab H2 in agri
A true hotspot for innovation in hydrogen technology. That was the aim of Greenport Noord-Holland Noord, Ontwikkelingsbedrijf Noord-Holland Noord and New Energy Coalition to realise in the Fieldlab Waterstof in Agri. Agricultural entrepreneurs actively and closely cooperate with knowledge institutes and government organisations to gain experience in the field of applying and developing infrastructure for the use of hydrogen.
Fieldlab activities
- Performing experiments using hydrogen in heavy machinery and vehicles, to perform research on how these applications fit in the operations of agricultural companies and their supply chain as well as the impact on environment, nature and society;
- Developing plans and communicating how these applications can be scaled up for application in the North Holland North region;
- Develop education programs for the technicians and other personnel who will operate, develop, maintain and manage these hydrogen applications in the future;
- Investigating how to connect with the other sectors that are taking the step towards hydrogen;
- Investigate how hydrogen can be used to reduce grid congestion and reduce dependence on gas and diesel.
This project is supported by a financial contribution by the Rabobank and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under grant agreement Kansen voor West III no. 66.
The role of NGM within the field lab
NGM contributes to the project by further developing methanol fuel cell technology, in which methanol is used as a hydrogen carrier. Within the application in agriculture, it is being investigated whether the technique can be used to power and/or charge heavy agricultural equipment and whether there are other (economically) feasible applications such as providing energy to pumps and in irrigation.
