Power Generation Module

Since 2020, Next Generation Machinery B.V. (NGM) has been focusing on making heavy machinery more sustainable. To this end, we have set ourselves an ultimate goal: to develop a robust zero-emission power unit that can be built into heavy machinery as a practical and economically viable alternative to the diesel engine.

We are developing this power unit with the working name MOOSE: Mobile Origination Off-grid Sustainable Energy, with is the foundation for achieving our ultimate goal. We apply our Power Generation Module (PGM) ourselves in our Mobile Charging Unit as a tangible solution to enable charging electrical equipment on construction sites without a grid connection. To make as much impact as possible, the PGM is of course also available for other applications.

Advantages

The PGM offers possibilities as a mobile power source for retrofit and new construction.  The capacity is – in time scalable – up to 100kW (EoL) per unit, which offers opportunities for a wide range of equipment.

Specifications

Power and output:

  • Fuel cell continuous power output: up to 100 kW (EoL)
  • DCDC output:
    • Voltage range: <800V DC
    • Current range: TBA

Dimensions and Weight:

The PGM consists of two configurable elements (reformer and fuel cell). Furthermore, space will have to be fitted in for a fuel tank and battery pack, which can be optimized per design.

General and Operational:

  • Operating temperature (min/max): -20ºC / +45ºC
  • Tilting angle: 15º max
  • Operational life: ~30.000 hours

Functionality

Green methanol (Bio- and/or E-methanol) is converted into a hydrogen-rich gas in a so-called reformer. This gas mixture is converted into water vapor and a DC current in a fuel cell, which is immediately available at the outlet.
